Orientation and registration was supposed to be today, but since the electricity was out, everything was cancelled. We were already on the metro by the time we received the email, so we decided to go shopping instead! You know, to be productive with our day.
After doing some productive shopping at Primark and some other stores close to Gran Via, we decided we were hungry. Most restaurants don’t even open up until 1 PM at the earliest, so we were just walking the streets hoping to stumble across something to drink. This seems like a common occurrence.
VEGA: Organic | Vegan | Local
The menu of the day is posted outside of the restaurant. Yep, that’s a 3 course menu including bread and drinks for only 7’90€. Vega is open every day, but only from 1 – 3 PM. We got there right when it opened, but it filled up FAST and there were even people waiting when we left around 2! I’m not surprised though, because this was one of the best lunches I’ve ever had.
Appetizer: Amazing bread as always with a coconut soup with tofu and mushrooms. And of course, we all choose wine for our choice of beverage (vino tinto for red wine).
Main course: There were 3 options for a main course, but two of us went with the country rice with sweet potato and garbanzos. One went with the lasagna with soy bolognese and spinach. I kind of wish we got all three to try! The Chinese noodles with vegetables and hoisin sauce also looked very good.
Here they are again, because one photo is not enough. Also, we could of gotten two main dishes instead of one for 4 more euros!
Dessert: Two desserts were available. I got the chocolate walnut cake with a caramelized-ish kumquat on top. Highly recommend. It was the perfect sweetness and density, and ugh, everything was just perfect. The friends got a strawberry mousse with cinnamon (tasted more like vanilla to me), and it was pretty good as well.
Overall, I definitely, definitely recommend this place. The atmosphere is incredible, the waiter was nice (and quite cute, which doesn’t hurt). It has 4-5 stars on Yelp and I’ve got to say, if I wasn’t too lazy, I’d give it 5 stars as well.
